It seems that there is some hope for my media buttons in Linux. Previously, the best solution appeared to be to recompile a patched version of my kernal. This wasn’t very appealling. Pointed out to me today was the the linEAK project. This is a daemon that sits and listens to the codes generated by the keyboard and will fire of events for the media keys. All without having to mess around much beyond starting the daemon. I’ve been in Windows this week (waiting for SharpE bugs to surface), but when I go back to Linux, I’ll definitely be giving linEAK a go. I will keep you posted on how it goes. How exciting!
