Experimentation has provided further insight in yesterday’s don’t compile everything into the kernel advice. I removed as much as possible from the kernel itself into modules, leaving only essential filesystems and a few other bits in. I then added my VIA IDE chipset controller driver into the kernel and removed the default setting from the kernel. This resulted in a smaller kernel which boots, rather than failing in the decompression stage.
From a previous post you may realise that revision is getting boring. Even if you only have three days maximum per exam, it can still get very tedious. Perhaps it is **because** only three days are available: the mountain of work just doesn't seem surmountable in the given time.
What better way, then, to relieve the tedium than to compile a brand shiny new kernel? I know, I can’t think of a better thing to do. Sun shining outside? Birds fluttering? Pretty girls sunbathing? My my no, how can such things be called alluring? I think it is just because I can pretend to be working if I am still inside the house…
Cryptography exam today. Did it go well I hear you cry?
It would depend on how you define well. If you define “well” as:
a great chance for writing down the couple of things you do know and then making up a load of stuff in the hope some of it is correct
then fantastic.
If, however, you use the more common definition of:
writing down mark-worthy answers to each question and thus gaining a high mark
Something I hear more often than you might imagine are words along the lines of: (any excuse to use my favourite little blockquote effect, I know!)
Yeah, I really like the White Stripes. I just bought their first album, you know, the White Blood Cells one.
No, no, no! They made two albums before that! Today, therefore, I bring you one of my favourite songs from the White Stripes first LP, cunningly entitled The White Stripes. Early music from the White Stripes is far more raw sounding than their later work, most notably the singles released from both White Blood Cells and Elephant.
I want to be able to go out late.
I want to play more pool.
I want to not feel guilty when playing Neverwinter Nights.
I want time to code cool things.
I want more time to write.
I want more time to read.
I want more time to learn.
I want more time to explore.
a.k.a
I don’t want to revise any more.
