I now have seemingly reliable mouse gestures in Firebird. I never seemed to be able to get them working correctly (well, to my definition of correctly) before. However, the nightly on their site works fine so far. I’m using them in Win/Firebird now, I shall try them in Lin/Fb when I get on the net. This date is set for August 9th, when the nice cable company will come and give us the internet. At last!

This looks like an interesting new set of articles. They are going to be about simplifying everyday web tasks for users. The first one is about showing users where they have made errors when filling out forms. Kalsey has also done some other very useful things, such as pure HTML list nested tabs and dotted CSS borders in IE that are worthwhile reads.

Damn. I just wrote some nice RegExs to parse the links and stuff much more reliably from my input. Then I upload and what do I find? The ASP on this server doesn’t support lookahead and lookbehind constructs, i.e. (?=……) and such. This is pretty annoying as it makes some of the parsing much cleaner than otherwise. A nice idea over at Asterisk* . Each week there is a new “Song of the Week” put online. As it’s only a single song, I wouldn’t call it any form of piracy, but it gives you a feeling for a band you may not have heard of. Certainly, I haven’t heard of most of the bands mentioned, though most look like I would like them. This week’s artist, Mars Volta, I have heard of but I don’t know much about. I’ve got the streaming audio on at the moment and I do rather like it. Whether I’ll buy any of their music, I don’t know yet. However, it’s a neat idea and I shall certainly be checking for updates to listen too.

Firebird 0.6.1 is out. Need I even say that I recommend you get it? Talking on the Mozilla project, there is now a 0.1 release of Thunderbird out too. Thunderbird really is starting to shape up now. If you’ve been interested, but not tried it out yet, now’s the time to download it and try it out!
