A nice idea over at Asterisk* . Each week there is a new “Song of the Week” put online. As it’s only a single song, I wouldn’t call it any form of piracy, but it gives you a feeling for a band you may not have heard of. Certainly, I haven’t heard of most of the bands mentioned, though most look like I would like them. This week’s artist, Mars Volta, I have heard of but I don’t know much about. I’ve got the streaming audio on at the moment and I do rather like it. Whether I’ll buy any of their music, I don’t know yet. However, it’s a neat idea and I shall certainly be checking for updates to listen too.
Firebird 0.6.1 is out. Need I even say that I recommend you get it? Talking on the Mozilla project, there is now a 0.1 release of Thunderbird out too. Thunderbird really is starting to shape up now. If you’ve been interested, but not tried it out yet, now’s the time to download it and try it out!
Buy Music.com . Not from them though, at least for me. What do I know has a good write up that I fully agree with. If you’re going to use the web as your medium, be prepared to really use the web for what it is.
Step 1: Design a web app for IE’s ‘quirks’ mode.
Step 2: Try to make it work in ‘standards’ mode.
Step 3: Go back to ‘quirks’ mode.
These are the three steps I’ve been through this morning. I am mainly a HTML/CSS guy; I don’t really mess too much with JavaScript. I thought that the Doctype switch was mainly to turn on valid CSS support. It would turn out that I am wrong. It also turns on the W3C DOM. Which I guess is understandable, really.
Long time, no posts. This isn’t going to be a long one either =)
