ShellOn v3

ShellOn v2 grew organically, and after I’d been at university doing computer science for a while, I realised it was a mess. This was my attempt to rewrite it in a less awful way. I stopped using Windows before I finished it, but my recollection is that it was somewhat nicer. I’m sure I’d hate it now, of course, in 2024 when I’m writing this.

This shows all the various tabs of ShellOn v3. I think the colours tab controlled the appearance of the shell selection window when you booted up. I was quite proud to have drawn all the 16x16 icons myself.

Original description

This program is no longer under active development, but has no known bugs.

ShellOn v3 is a newer version of my shell-switching program for Windows 9x, NT, 2000 and XP. It has not been tested on Windows Vista; I'd love to hear from anyone who has tried it. ShellOn v2 has fewer features, but is more tested.

Whilst development of this program was stopped during its release candidate phase, there were no known bugs at this stage. It has, however, undergone less testing than ShellOn v2, so both versions are made available.

Uninstall instructions are the same as for ShellOn v2.

Current version: Release Candiate 2, released 18/06/2003
